The Journey begins...
Balakrishna Parankusam

"Retailog" blog is an initiative from budding young exuberant retailers from India. The objective behind creating this blog is not only to educate ourselves with the phenomena called "Retail" but also seek learnings from across the globe.

Retail in India is evolving and witnessing a consolidation on a minor scale with Industry biggies getting into the gruelling boxing ring of "bottomlines & markdowns". We as the ringside cheerleaders and participants have taken the onus of bringing this bout of "profits and customer delight" to a wider audience. Mentor the nascent talent and learn from the Masters is our mantra.

Retailog is a "log" of Retailing events and learnings and also a culmination of budding retail "logs" (hindi for "people").

Come join us as we get into the cruise control mode of the Great Retail Journey, there would be pauses on the way, but these pauses will be accompanied with getting more Retail fanatics onto the bandwagon.

THIS IS REALLY AN WONDERFUL IDEA, AS FAR AS ORGANIZED RETAIL-INDIA IS STILL UNTAPPED. WITH HARDLY 5% TO THE TOTAL, STILL IN ITS INFANCY BUT THE GROWTH IN THE PAST 2 YEARS HAS SURPASSED THE NO'S OF PREVIOUS 10 YEARS, TIMES NOT FAR WHEN IT WOULD LEAD INDIA IN THE ORGANIZED RETAIL SPECTRUM ALSO. CONGRATS TO MR.BALA FOR INITIATING THIS, AND ACCOLADES TO MS.REBECCA AND MR.SIRISH ALSO FOR SHARING THEIR IDEAS ON THE SAME. CHEERS SIMPSON

The latest retailer to enter Hyderabad as i came to know, has been Metro cash & carry. They have been allocated land at Kukatpally-Miyapur road. There is now a row that suddenly has sprung up with the ex-CM Mr.Naidu objecting to so much of land being given to an MNC at a throw away price. His point is that the employment generated is not so huge, that the price needs to be compensated!!!!
Was he really right?????

My view on what Star had asked as to whoz gonna win the race in Indian retail, is that as long as the company is process oriented and has a proper strategy in place, victory would always be theirs!!!!

The MNCs come with great experiences in better markets or even similar markets (considering that countries like Phillipines etc) are similar to India. This along with their System support and investment power can provide a lot of advantage to them here. The employees in Indian retail have a great advantage in understanding the best practices in International retail, thereby raising the standards in the industry
